Gluten Free Friendly

For us, eating out has become something we think about a little differently. Our daughter Bonnie was recently diagnosed with coeliac disease, which means that gluten isn’t simply something she needs to avoid — it can make her seriously unwell, and even cross-contamination matters. Suddenly, finding somewhere that the whole family can eat without worry has become much more important.

We’ve discovered that “we have a gluten-free option” can mean very different things depending on the venue. Sometimes there’s a whole menu of choices; sometimes there’s a single lonely jacket potato! And for someone with coeliac disease, knowing how food is prepared and whether care is taken to avoid cross-contamination can be just as important as what’s actually on the menu.

So we’ve started putting together a list of gluten-free friendly places in Wiltshire — somewhere you can enjoy a meal, a coffee or a treat without feeling like you’re making a complicated special request.

We’re still building the list, and we’ll be looking for places that genuinely make eating out easier for people who need to eat gluten-free. If you know somewhere in Wiltshire that deserves to be on it, we’d love to hear from you. 😊
